John, I am not sure if you are familiar with this but Assimp is an Open Source library (licensed under BSD) that could be a helpful addition to SEUK.

From the web site:
"Open Asset Import Library (short name: Assimp) is a portable Open Source library to import various well-known 3D model formats in a uniform manner. The most recent version also knows how to export 3d files and is therefore suitable as a general-purpose 3D model converter. See the feature list."

The list of formats supported is very impressive.

Assimp - Open Asset Import Library

Hi Steven,

Thanks for mentioning Assimp. We have looked into it in the past because, as you pointed out, it supports many formats in a cross-platform environment.

With the .X format now being a legacy format and .OBJ being quite large it might be worth considering again. We still have support for .FBX on our Todo list as well.

I know with Assimp there were issues to do with animation. It is possible but quite tricky.

The Multi-platform version of the Shoot 'Em Up Kit converts models to the PowerVR POD format when you export. The POD format is quite optimal for mobile devices and handles skinned animation as well as static models.

Thanks again,
John

FBX would be a great format

FBX would be a great format to have.

I'll look into the PowerVR POD format...
