I would like to have two layers of clouds moving across the screen in the opposing direction of where ever the player is pointed, the player being stuck, centre screen, and rotated left and right only. The clouds, like a star field, will create the illusion of movement.
I tried the particle effect but my cloud graphic would not show up as a sprite, I tried various extensions to, my blue sky sprite shows up, so I've made a start. ;-)

Cloud layer or particle

Hi matabhaine,

Thanks for the question. It has caused a bit of discussion here. :)

The Shoot 'Em Up Kit was designed to have a camera track the player. You can create a level map with clouds at different heights and have the camera move along with the player. However, quite a lot of people are creating games where the camera doesn't move and they scroll the background instead.

We have provided a bit of support for this already, with background scrolling, and we will have parallax scrolling controls in the next version. But what you are describing is a great idea and we will include the option for player directional scrolling too.

We'll let you know as soon as we've added this functionality.

Thanks again,
John
