Hi everybody !

It's been a long time since my last post !
I wanted to share with you some of the progresses i made with my game lately.
I have taken some nice videos from the beta test last week.
I am still in the process of editing them so it will take a bit of time before i can upload them all.
In the meantime, i will share some screenshots with you.

Since last update a few months ago, many things changed and were added :
- Movement in all 2D direction are now possible
- The battlefield is now divided in 2 zones controled by each players
- Different proximity Walls and Effects have been added to each battlefield to display the limit.
- Players can block damage by using a shield limited by an energy bar
- Players can clear the field by activating up to 3 Bombs
- Players can use a dash to escape in any direction
- "Prepare for battle sequence" has been added before activating weapons for the duel
- A heavy hitsunt is now impacting player on collision
- Particle effects has been enhanced for bullets collision and player collision
- HUD has been improved to track Health, bombs and shield for both players
- Trail effect has been added to the players and reduce in size as health goes down
- Bouncing has been used for some weapon design
- Laserbeam consistency has been improved

If you are interested, in my next post, i will share with you the method i used in the kit to implement the bomb.

Shoot-Figthers V0.9.3

Hi Djio,

Thank you for sharing the latest screenshots of your game. The game is looking great and the screenshots show off the features and the action really well.

You've added a lot of cool features. I love the details such as the trail length shortening as your health goes down - it's a great way of being aware of your health without having to look up at the HUD.

We look forward to seeing the videos when you have finished the editing.

Thanks again,
John

I was able to finish the first video last night : Shoot-Fighter V0.9.3 - Bouncing bullets

As the title imply, the focus of this level is the bounce feature.
It's a fun behavior that adds a lot of fun to the gameplay.
The bullets are bouncing efficiently even on moving objects. It's great to see it working !
With so many elements moving and colliding around, the game stays between 57/60 FPS. Sweet...

The bouncing option i use is the "turn pitch 180" option.
It allows the bullet to rebound on any object at a fixed angle. I will try if it can bounce on bullets too. Could be fun !

OK Behavior : The bounce is the same whatever type or angle of surface it hits. For example, the player's ship collision mask is a sphere, but the rebound stays the same. (video at 0:9)
KO Behavior : When hitting the side of an objet, it will go through the surface and start bouncing inside it. Ideally, it should turn back. (video at 0:15)
Bug Behavior : When bouncing is active on a bullet, it gets indestructible. (video at 0:22 and 0:54)

I had fun with the lighting in this stage. I tagged colored flashlights to the players to illuminate the dark surroundings.
The kit manage the light reflection on objects beautifully !

The cube movements are managed by a spine. This was my first attempt at using it. It was sometime messy to position the checkpoints inside the spline path. Next time i will try formation combined with spine !

Looks great! Yes, share your bomb strategy when you get the time. I'm going to work on a super bomb pretty soon, too.

Thank you for sharing the video Djio. The game is looking exciting to play and very beautiful too. We will look at the issues you are having with the bouncing bullets - they are a nice feature in the game.

Thanks,
Karen

Hi !

I finished the next video last night : Shoot-Fighter V0.9.3 - 2.5D gameplay

This level was presented 5 months ago while players could only move up and down. Now that they can go in 4 directions, I had to adapt the level and the weapons to keep collision working. I worked on the HUD to make it clearer and follow more informations. The level is a good demonstration of my goal : To have 3D interactions with the background while the duel itself stays in 2D.

I will create soon an other level that follows this path. It will have cargo ships rising from bellow with crates on their deck. When the ship arrive to the players level, they will be able to shoot the crates onto their opponent. Every crate will be a physicX object so they will react heavily to firearms. I already made some tests and it's beautiful :)

Hi Djio,

Thank you for sharing this video. Your game has so many great ideas. I love the way you have used the 3rd dimension for hazards while the main gameplay is still in 2D - you have to stay aware of all your surroundings. The bombs work really well and are a nice addition to the variety of weapons.

You've also done a great job with the HUD. It is very well presented and it is easy to glance at the damage bar or the bomb count to see how you are doing.

I really look forward to the cargo ships delivering crates for the players to use against their opponents. It's features like this that add depth and strategy to a game, which is very exciting. :D

Thanks again for sharing your exciting progress.

Hi !

I wanted to share with you the progress i have made so far on the cargo level : Shoot-Fighter V0.9.4 - Concept demo level

My objectives here are to :
- have different elements come from the depth of the level (crates, explosive containers, agressive drones,...)
- have them interact with the players ships and bullets once they reach the player's hight's.
- have a realistic management of collisions in zero gravity
- have a fully destructible environnement in and around the battlefield.

I feel most of those objectives are reached so I will now move on to complete the level and polish every corner of it.
I hope to be able to show you a finished version by the end of the month before moving to my next big feature : the boss mode.

Thanks for your support !

Hi Djio,

Your game is looking great! :D

I love the competitive 2 player arcade game vive which comes through. You've created many great levels for this game and it's great to see the new weapon types and use of the environment in this one.

Thanks for sharing this.

John
